Jane Yuan
Bio:
Jane Yuan grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and was born in Princeton, NJ. Jane Yuan received her MFA in Studio Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2020. She also received her BA in French from Cornell University in 2016. She specializes in drawing and painting, and is interested in imitating Japanese prints. She likes to create large drawings on paper. She currently works as a tutor. She wishes to teach fine arts to students in the future.
Artist Statement:
Jane Yuan is interested in Japanese myths. She researches Japanese short stories and literature. She is also inspired by Japanese and Chinese art. Jane Yuan has illustrated some works of Japanese literature, such as short stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. She is interested in Japanese culture and tradition. She is interested in both the traditional and the contemporary. In her work, there is also suggestion of cultures, identity, and tradition. When thinking about cultural identity, she is trying to depict the Japanese cultural identity in her drawings. She is aiming to depict the Japanese aesthetic. She is interested in illustrating these Japanese myths.
